Area classification — read this before specifying

The ZBD131 carries equipment protection level Gc for gas and Dc for dust. That places it in Zone 2 (gas, occasional and short-lived release) and Zone 22 (dust, occasional release). It is not a Zone 1 / Zone 21 luminaire: if your area is classified Zone 1 or Zone 21, specify a flameproof Ex db / Ex tb model from the same series instead — for example the ZBD119 platform light, which is Ex db IIC T6 Gb / Ex tb IIIC T80°C Db.

The temperature class is T6 (85°C maximum surface temperature) for gas, and the dust marking limits the surface to T80°C with group IIIC (conductive dust) covered.

Body sizes and dimensions

Dimensions in millimetres. The sheet draws two body sizes. The two published weights (1.523 kg and 2.634 kg) are not assigned to a body size on the sheet, and the sheet does not say which size covers which part of the 30–100 W range — please confirm both points, and we will update this table.

Features

• Ex nR IIC T6 Gc — non-sparking with restricted breathing for Zone 2 gas atmospheres, group IIC at temperature class T6 (85°C maximum surface temperature).
• Ex tc IIIC T80°C Dc — dust ignition protection by enclosure for Zone 22, including conductive dust, with an 80°C maximum surface temperature.
• Dome diffuser — all-round illumination with even coverage and no dark corners under the fitting.
• Ribbed body — through-flow air convection over a large fin area keeps the LED compartment cool.
• Polycarbonate diffuser cover — impact and UV-aging resistant.
• 30 W to 100 W on an AC 220 V / 50 Hz single-phase supply.
• G3/4" cable inlet, matching the glands used on the rest of the range.
• Two body sizes drawn on the sheet — 219 mm and 274.5 mm overall height.

Applications

Because the ZBD131 is rated for Zone 2 gas and Zone 22 dust, it is used where a release is unlikely and short-lived — for example:

• Walkways, platforms and catwalks in refineries and chemical plants
• Tank tops, pump and compressor skids inside Zone 2 envelopes
• Workshops, maintenance bays and stores in Zone 2 areas
• Loading bays and utility areas outside classified zones but within the Zone 2 boundary
• Dust-handling plants where the area is classified Zone 22
• Retrofit positions where the existing installation is already rated Gc / Dc
